Holly House
Holly, Washington
2018–Under construction
A fire destroyed my client's family's hundred-year-old cabin. The cherished structure had been in the family six decades. It burned down the night after my client finished an extensive remodel.
My client asked me to design a rebuild of the cabin. The new structure would have the spirit of the old cabin, but the planning and construction of a modern home.

Holly is a small, remote community on Hood Canal. The community is knit together by a small road running between the tidelands and the waterfront residences. It was important the house struck a balance between connection to the stunning view and a sense of privacy while inside.
To help the owner feel at home from day one, I used a simple palette of natural materials. Exposed fir framing, unstained cedar siding, galvanized metal roofing—materials that will look even better ten years down the line.
